Positive Behaviour Interventions and Supports (PBIS) at NSEE
At NSEE, we believe in creating a positive, supportive environment where every student can thrive and that’s why we’re proud to be a PBIS school!
PBIS stands for Positive Behaviour Interventions and Supports. It’s a proactive approach that helps students learn and practice our school-wide expectations in a fun and encouraging way. When students show positive behaviours, we celebrate their efforts, whether it’s with kind words, small rewards, or school-wide recognition.
Our students are encouraged to SHINE in every part of the school, from classrooms and hallways to the bus, cafeteria, gym, library, and playground. SHINE stands for being Safe, Helpful, Neighborly, showing Integrity and being Engaged. SHINE is more than just a set of expectations, it is how we build a respectful, caring, and successful school community.
Together, students, staff, families, and teachers work as a team to create a consistent, uplifting school culture where every child feels valued, supported, and ready to succeed.
Let’s SHINE together!
Our school uses the SHINE expectations—Safety, Helpful, Integrity, Neighbourly, and Engaged—to guide student behavior in different settings like classrooms and hallways. These expectations give children clear, easy-to-follow reminders of how to act respectfully and responsibly, whether they’re learning, walking through the school, or spending time with classmates. By teaching and reinforcing SHINE every day, staff help students build important life skills such as self-control, honesty, cooperation, and perseverance. This consistency not only supports a positive school environment but also helps children carry these values into their friendships, activities, and life outside of school.
